We are in the middle of Cyclone season and we need to move the boat. As we debate where to go, we share a few rescue stories from the Carenage, provision for the passage, plead for the sun to come out, get kicked off a wave in Huahine, show you how to exercise while living aboard and how we celebrate Christmas on a boat!

Christmas on a boat is usually quite hard to pull off, but since we had just flown in from the states we could bring presents from our extended family with us. We did forget to bring stockings though, so orange tube socks had to work! Best Christmas ever? Maybe!

Regarding surfing in Huahine, unfortunately it seems the “Black Shorts” type of attitude from Hawaii has come to this island and some locals do not want outsiders surfing here. Having surfed throughout French Polynesia, this was a new experience for us, as usually the locals paddle up and give you a hand slap, formally welcoming you to the wave. As Seth surfed by himself in Huahine (taking the waves from no-one), a local charged him with his boat in the take off zone. Ironically, by expelling Seth from the wave, it will probably just draw more attention to this surf spot. Either way, there are a lot of great places to surf that are more inviting, so let’s get outta here! Goodbye French Polynesia. It’s been interesting…

RAIATEA CARENAGE:
If you are sailing through French Polynesia, let Dominique Goche (the owner/manager) know this video sent you! Definitely consider having any fiberglass repairs, bottom paint, or, if you are bold enough, red hull paint applied! They can do it all. https://www.raiateacarenage.com

PRE-COVID:
This video was shot December 2019-January 2020, just before Covid became a thing.

ABOUT US: We are a family of five sailing around the world on our “dream boat,” a performance catamaran named “Archer.” Ten years ago B.K. (“before kids”), we sailed a Lagoon 380 named “Honeymoon” halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences via YouTube and, by happenstance, created one of the first “sailing channels.” We also realized what an incredible experience we were having and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with kids.

OUR ROUTE has taken us from the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States down to the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal. We have dealt with massive repairs in the South Pacific, the Coronavirus lock down in New Zealand, a Category 5 Cyclone in Fiji, and now we are cruising in Covid Free Australia. Videos for all of this to come!
