If we’re planning to do it we say, ‘We’re going to heave-to.’
If we’re doing it we say, ‘We’re heaving-to.’
If we’ve finished we say, ‘We’re hove-to.’
If Coast Guard calls us and asks if we’re OK because the boat’s going around in circles we say, ‘We’re un-heave-hoving-to and a bit busy at the moment but thanks for checking. Snow Gum out!’
My grammar teacher would applaud my hyphenation, to join the separate words into a single word. 🤪
