We have my parents come help us on the build for a few days. Not only has my dad been saying he’s wanted to lend a hand for a long time, but I’ve been looking forward to getting his perspective on this build.

That’s because, through my life, my parents have built four houses we’ve lived in, basically on their own. Even while working full time, my dad would spend every night and every weekend going through the build stage of each of our homes – from framing to drywalling, to roofing, to electrical.

So, how does that compare to a boat build? Specifically, how does doing drywall compare to doing fairing? This is a question I needed an answer to.

With my parent’s three days with us, I had my dad working in the aft guest berth, sanding down existing fairing compound, and then prepping a bare surface to add it. On the outboard side, he had the chance to see what it was like to fair complex curves, and blend tape seams into the foam.

What were this thoughts on the process? Make sure to watch our latest episode to find out!
