After more than a year sitting at the dock and weeks of nonstop repairs, it’s finally time to get my 1989 CT56 sailboat, Nauti Dogs, back out on the water!
We leave Solomons, Maryland, and enjoy an incredible 53-nautical-mile sail down the Chesapeake Bay to the charming town of Onancock, Virginia. Along the way, we pass right by the American Mariner, a historic Navy target ship sitting in the Chesapeake Bay.
Everything is going great until we enter the channel approaching Onancock… and I run aground! Fortunately, we aren’t stuck hard and manage to get moving again before making it safely to the town dock.
After all the work it took to get this old boat sailing again, it feels incredible to finally be back out on the water!
