Date Night Dinner Jungle Cruise – We are hiding out from hurricanes down in central america. We just hauled out our sailboat to do repairs, but tonight is date night – Guatemala style and tonight’s restaurant is only accessible by small boat so we head down the diy doggy staircase and through the boatyard to our personal limo – the dinghy!
It rains pretty much everyday here, so there is only slightly less water inside than on the outside. Pumping out the water is a bicep tricep and shoulder workout.
Rio Dulce is a river town where getting anywhere by boat is the status quo, though it can be a bit wet.

We make our way through this narrow tree tunnel filled with birds, bugs and howler monkeys. These tunnels are a serious maze to navigate, but here we are!
Casa Perico – a cute family owned hideaway, perfectly blended with the natural landscape. The whole place feels very loved.
Tonight it’s just us and some backpackers staying at the hostel. First drinks! and then I ordered the Mojarra which is a whole fried fish, yum. The bathrooms are down this catwalk, and my visit there is, memorable, if not the most private.
We pay the bill in Guatemalan Quetzales, fire up the outboard, re-inflate the tube since it has a leak – and head home back across the bay before the mayflies come out.
