Through every refit we have become more familiar with Avocet’s design and layup, touching nearly every inch of the boat in the process, but there was one final piece that was left mostly untouched by us – the rig. We had already done a bit of rig work prior fabricating all new chain plates, and replacing our cap shrouds but we knew there was much more to be done. From the records we have, our mast was installed in 2004, but it was showing signs of ware and beginning to fail in crucial areas such as the shievs. So, back to the boatyard we went with tools in hand for a relatively quick but major upgrade.
