Join the Barefoot Doctors to see set and trim an Oxley Levante on any boat and examples shown on this Leopard 50 sailing catamaran. Paul Badenhorst also discusses the pros and cons of the 4 line versus 2 line wing spinnaker control systems.

Here is the recommended way to set and trim the Oxley Levante (winged spinnaker) when you take the exciting step of getting it flying! Paul Badenhorst, who is an experienced skipper with over 285,000nm under his belt, shares his knowledge to help everyone understand and use their Oxley’s and other winged spinnakers to the maximum!

Many folk have asked why we do not use 4 lines and Paul answers this question with the pros and cons of both systems….

This short how to is specifically aimed at people that have or are considering having a wing spinnaker and those that want to improve the performance of the sails they already have. While many people have concerns about using these large spinnakers like Oxley’s, we hope that this step by step info about trimming it correctly will hopefully getting more folk call to get it up and use it more often….

Once hoisted this gives you fast and easy sailing downwind and we commonly sail this heavily laden, world cruising prepared Leopard at 50%-60% of the true wind speed directly downwind and higher percentages when at higher angles! The ease of operation and forgiving nature of the sail makes this ideal for long distance downwind sailing and eliminates the risk of gybing and the stress of sailing deep!!!
