We had succesfully crossed the Mallacca Strait from Langkawi, sailing 270 nautical miles arriving to Sabang Indonesia as the sun was coming up. We wasted no time clearing into the country the same day and picked up anchor in the afternoon to continue the trip south down the west coast of Sumatra.
The weather was light and we timed our pass through the notoriously dangerous cuts around the tip of Sumatra to perfection. with glassy seas we decided to keep going the 200 nautical miles to reach the first island of archipelago, Simelue. Everything was great until the sun set… 40 knots on the nose for hours and it only went down hill….
