Whenever we sail to a new country there is always that small window of time from when we first drop the hook to when we are officially checked into the country. That process can sometimes be quick and easy, but more often than not it’s a lengthy and frustrating process with multiple trips to various government agencies. And knowing exactly what documents are required, what taxes need to be paid, what restrictions need be observed can require a lot of research and the information you do find can be outdated, or each port can interpret the laws slightly differently. So checking into a country is always a bit of a nerve wracking experience because lurking behind the paperwork and bureaucracy is the ever present possibility that they might not let us in.
