Matt and I have a lot of fun things to cover in this week’s episode.

Firstly, we focus on our primers, both high build and final primer. Since we had painted our owner’s hull with Awl Grip’s Final Primer last week, and then left it for 8 days to go home and see family before coming back to sand it, we weren’t sure how easy of a task that would be. But, even jumping up to 320 grit sandpaper, Matt had no problem using our new DA sander to bring this down to a smooth finish, and barely any of our high build is showing through. Just a bit of touch up hand sanding from me and it will be ready for it’s last coat of primer!

Then in the guest side, we FINALLY get to putting the first coat of high build primer in the head. A space that has been ready for weeks and weeks, but we needed to replace the protective plastic of the gelcoated mold before we could move on to this task. Once it was done though, it felt SO NICE to have a good 80% of the guest hull covered in primer.

Lastly, although we’re not at the point we’re ready to install it yet, Matt goes over our choice of propeller, especially since we’ve spent a lot of time recently talking about the prop shaft. Originally we had planned on going with a folding prop, but since we’re now a hybrid boat, our priorities have changed. With a folding prop we would have been able to beach our boat, but now the focus is on regeneration, especially while sailing at 12-15 knots.

Lots of propeller’s would have an issue with this at such high speeds, but thanks to the enormous hub on the AB Marine feathering propeller we’ve received, we feel confident in its abilities.
Make sure to watch the video for all the details.
We hope you enjoy!
